| A winter wonderland |
After getting the cabin setup and a quick lunch, we headed out to try and find some early dropped shed antlers and to take down safety straps and tow ropes from the tree stands. With all of the snow, it was really easy to see where the deer were spending their time. As it turns out, they were really enjoying the brassica food plot on the small field.

Later in the afternoon, we drove the truck down to the middle of the big field to unload supplies and build another ground blind platform. The plan for this year is to plant a 2nd, bigger, food plot on the North end of the big field. This platform will be placed on a high point on the East side of the plot to take advantage of westerly winds. For now, we aren't going to build another box blind, but I have a hub popup blind that we will put on the platform this fall.

Abigail headed for the cabin to dry off and warm up while I made my way to the South end of the property and up the lane to clean up a few branches that had fallen. After dinner, we enjoyed a movie and then went to bed.
After mass at St. Patrick's in the morning, we got out my new target stand and my .22 rifle. If all goes right, and she feels comfortable, Abigail is going to try her hand at deer hunting this fall. We spent a lot of time focusing on safety and how to properly handle and aim a gun but she picked everything up very quickly. We will get a lot more shots in this spring and summer before even giving the muzzleloader a try but she really enjoyed target shooting and is excited for the opportunity to hunt.

After lunch, I loaded the bed of the truck with items to take home that we no longer need to have at the cabin. I'm trying to get everything as organized as possible before spring comes as I will be working on finishing the inside of the cabin and moving everything around inside.
Abigail, Bridget, and I will be heading back to the cabin for another weekend in a couple of weeks. We will be working on pruning the fruit orchard and more cleanup inside of the cabin. Hopefully we can find a couple of shed antlers as well.
